In between blogging, sleeping, eating and playing I’m trying to read. I like Altered Egos by Willow’s famous thriller master, Bill Kitson – it’s all about Detective Mike Nash.

Do Not Disburb
I’ve seen new dad wearing glasses when he reads, but when I tried them on nothing made sense.

Maybe I’ll stick to playing for a while…..

I haven’t been blogging for a while as I’ve been busy growing. I’m now almost 12 weeks old, weigh a hefty 4.2kg and stand 33cm tall (13 inches for you oldies) from the ground to the top of my head. Six weeks in my new home and I’m growing fast. Just six weeks…? That’s half of my lifetime – where does the time go?

Growing Fast!
I’m not fully house-trained yet, but getting there. There have been a few mistakes, which new mum doesn’t appear too happy about – I can always tell by the unpleasant look on her face and the way her voice suddenly drops a few decibels. I’ve tried nodding toward a few websites on the Internet, which say that a puppy needs patience and shouldn’t be told off, but I don’t think she’s got the message yet….
I made a HUGE mistake with my master plan to have CHICKEN everyday. I began to leave the dried fake meat, thinking I would get the CHICKEN if I didn’t eat it. But now all I get is the same dried meat balls everyday – and only twice a day instead of three times, at that! That was a big mistake!

Supplementing My Diet With Vegetation
I love going out for long walks, especially in the long grasses where I can sniff to my heart’s content and roll around like an army commando. Yesterday on the beach was exceptionally beautiful, with masses of wild flowers, growing in the sands. I kept sneezing from all the lovely smells.
It sure is a beautiful world!

My lady friend Poppy, is a beautiful Beagle. Beagles are best known as scent hounds because they have an extraordinary sense of smell. Some of Poppy’s distant relatives have highly important jobs and are employed by customs agencies around the world, as detection dogs. Their speciality is to scent out illegally imported foods. Poppy’s speciality is to scent out empty crisp packets at home – and she’s really very good at that. Once she finds them she licks the packets meticulously, until they’re as clean as a dish.

The Beautiful, Sultry Poppy
Poppy is also a connoisseur of fine water. She won’t just drink any water though, but prefers the nice bubbly water out of the shower tray (she probably thinks it’s champagne).
She gets really excited when it’s windy, raising her nose high in the air to savour all the smells in the atmosphere – she must be able to smell the crisp packets from the pub down the road.
As you can see from the photo below – just like my cousin Austin, Poppy also likes to laze on the sofa.
So what I want to know is: how come I’m not allowed to sleep on the sofa …???

Friday was Take Your Master To Work Day so my cousin, Russell, took along his mum-master. While Russell was looking into a problem with one of the NASA databases, he kept his mum-master busy with making cups of tea and coffee. Occasionally, she even answered the telephone for him too. It’s not something Russell would like to do too often, but mum-master seemed to enjoy herself.

Russell at work
On Saturday Russell took mum-master and dad-master out for a stroll on the Common. They don’t get much fresh air, so Russell likes to take them out as much as he can. On the Common, they throw tennis balls around (it’s probably good exercise for their arms) but they can’t be bothered to fetch them back. So Russell has to go running after the balls and bring them back each time – otherwise they’d lose them all. Sometimes, just to teach them a lesson, Russell chews the balls up into little bits instead of bringing them back. This seems to give mum-master and dad-master a lot of pleasure though – so much so, they throw even more tennis balls around.

Rubbish tennis balls...!
When the weather is really nice, Russell takes them down to the beach. It’s a bit far to go outside of London, but they’re quite well behaved in the car, so he doesn’t mind.

A day at the beach
Russell is an excellent runner. If he’d had the time to train, he would have entered the London Marathon – but he’s so busy with his computer programming that he finds it difficult. He can outrun every dog on the Common though and despite all the other dogs trying, no one has been able to catch up with him yet!
I’ve got so much to live up to, where my cousin Russell is concerned….

I’m now over nine weeks old, fully vaccinated and allowed out into the big wide world – but I think new mum and new dad need a few pointers:
First of all, my legs are only 13cm long (or 5 inches to you oldies). So when I have to go up a kerb, it’s not just a step for me – it’s a massive 2 metre high wall!!!
Second: the wild grass is lovely and lush and although I love rolling around in it, it’s not just greenery and weeds – for me, it’s a humongous jungle and I can’t always see where you’ve gone.

It's a Jungle Out There..
Third: although it might just be a spot of rain to you, it’s a torrential downpour to me and you haven’t even bought me a doggy coat yet!
Fourth: the sea is lovely and cool and refreshing, but it’s not just a wave that’s about to engulf me – it’s a flipping tsunami!
So, for dog’s sake, please show a little consideration for this little pup….

I'm LOVING sunbathing!

Australia is in there somewhere...

It's a puppy's life!

A puppy’s gotta chew what a puppy’s gotta chew – right?
Well, I’ve been read the riot act and here is a list of things I’ve been told NOT to chew:
- the dishwasher door when it’s open (I was only trying it out)

Chewing is good for my teeth
- ANY remote controls (fun!)
- the car seats (I was bored..)
- cables and wires of any type (shame, because they look like spaghetti)
- new mum’s feet and ankles (but I chew my own, so why not hers?)
- carpets and the lovely tassles on the end of the rugs (so much fun watching them unravel)
- the plants – including the soil (but they’re so tasty)
- newspaper – especially if I’m going to shred it up and leave bits all over the place
- any rubbish bags waiting to be put out (I’m sure I can smell CHICKEN in them)
- wooden coffee tables (great for gnawing on)
- the tyres on new dad’s cycle (they make such a funny noise when they shrink)
- the woofer speaker (but, hey – woofer..??)
So what’s left to chew, huh..?

Are you talking to me?

What - you mean I'm supposed to chew this instead...?!

Butter wouldn't melt.....

A lot of people don’t actually believe I’m writing these blog posts myself. Of course, they are absolutely right – I am only an 8 week old puppy, after all!
They are actually written by my cousin, Russell – who is one helluva computer geek. As well as typing my posts for me, he also assists with programming one of the NASA databases. He’s online first thing every morning, even before he’s got out of bed. When I get a bit older, Russell is going to teach me everything he knows.

Russell is a real computer geek
While Russell is working, I’m still sleeping. I have sussed out how to get extra treats and lots of praise from new mum and new dad, and it didn’t take brains to work out either.
I take myself off to bed each night – without any prompting from them – at about 7.30 in the evening and I stay in bed ALL night until about 7.30 in the morning. I would stay in bed for longer, or at least until I hear new mum and new dad get up, but by then I am SO hungry I have to call out to them for breakfast.
Then I gets lots of love and cuddles and a lovely big breakfast. It’s quite simple really!

Eat, sleep, play and more sleep
