I’m now over 10 Months old and weigh a healthy 10 kilograms. This will be my very first Christmas and I am so looking forward to all of the leftover turkey! Yum, yum…
The Forgotten Dog’s Christmas Poem
Twas the night before Christmas
when all thru the house
Not a creature was stirring
not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.
The children all nestled snug in their beds
With no thought of the dog filling their head.
And mom in her kerchief and I in my cap
Knew the dog was cold, but didn’t care about that.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash.
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But Santa Clause with his eyes full of tears.
He unchained the dog once so lively and quick
Last year’s Christmas present now painfully sick.
More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name
and the dog ran to him despite all his pain.
Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen
On Comet on Cupid on Donner and Blitzen.
To the top of the porch to the top of the wall
Let’s find this dog a home where he will be loved by all.
I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year
For Santa had made one thing quite clear.
The gift of a dog is not just for the season
We had gotten the dog for all the wrong reasons.
In our haste to think of the kids a gift
There was one important thing we missed
A dog should be family, and cared for the same
You don’t give a gift, then put it on a chain.
And I heard him explain as he rode out of sight,
“You weren’t given a gift, you were given a life.”

Goodness it’ll be your first birthday soon! That’s a terrific picture of you, and a really good poem.
Have a lovely Christmas, and lots of turkey! xx

Thank you, Flighty! Not looking forward to my first birthday, as I heard the vet booking me in for a little op… something about litter. But I’m very tidy, so not sure what that’s about…
Have a lovely Christmas, too xx

My ghosts of Christmases past are avisiting…
Ollie, Patch and Oscar would like to point out that it’s not ‘leftovers’ they and their eternal siblings crave. They are to be served first, before the humans. Getting that bit right ensures a loving, devoted, appreciative, snoozing, quiet but occasionally burping response. And of course the humans get to know in advance that the turkey has been cooked adequately. Results all round!
Merry Christmas Carlie, Jan and all who dish into that turkey!

What lovely names and I totally agree. But on this occasion I know the turkey will be too hot for me when it first comes out of the oven (I’m a bit fussy about my food – Dad says I’m spoilt) and I know the ‘leftover’ turkey will be more than half! So I’ll be very happy with that for a couple of meals. Yum! And I’ll eat some for Ollie, Patch and Oscar too xx
Happy Christmas, Rhian!

Oscar (the most experienced here), Ollie and Patch say ‘fresh is best’ and you can toy with it until it cools. Smell those lovely aromas erupting as you paw (aim to use claws only) those lovely gravy-covered turkey pieces onto the floor to cool. Best to avoid to carpeted areas for this as ‘they’ don’t really like it and, above all, it soaks up the gravy. Yes indeedy and what a loss. The smell lingers which might cause unnecessary temptation 4 hrs later, so best to avoid. And if they don’t notice it, it goes rank by the time they do. So stick to typical kitchen flooring or varnished/painted hardwood for the cooling process. It’s good to make a mess. That’s what turkey at Christmas is all about.
‘She’ll learn, Carlie, and you too’ say Oscar, Ollie and Patch in unison.
Meanwhile in heaven, Oscar is gutted to learn CFR’s discovery that the local Chinese added tinned pineapple chunks to their chicken satay during 2011. ‘It’s not meant to be sweet’ exclaimed Oscar to Heaven Media TV Channel Always, adding with much rue ‘I loved the spices.’ Too right. Neither CFR on earth nor Oscar in Heaven via the angels have made another order.
It’s not just the humans who go all ‘foodie’. Merry Christmas!

Fantastic! I will definitely give the fresh turkey a try, thanks for the tips! I will pass on the chicken satay though. Merry Christmas :0)

Oscar here: you go girl! Good to have them on board at last and serving you what is really required! Yes, do pass on that chicken satay I used to love as it’s been ruined now. But it’s a great dish so try elsewhere and let me know please? I so loved it. So did she (CFR). I loved a spicey Indian too, after my forays in Bucks; but she (CFR) never quite got that one. I think it was jealousy: that day I came home to her reeking of spices like an errant partner did it for me. Even when she found out it was someone’s gran, so no competition really! But hey ho, here in heaven I get to taste my long term faves whenever I ask. It’s a lovely memory every time.
Enjoy that Turk in gravy, Carlie! Oops, sorry, been on the spices again here, meant turkey in gravy…
Have a lovely first Christmas together all! Oscar xxx
