No blogging fora month.... hmmph!

So mum has joined this thing called NaNoWriMo where she has to complete a novel of 50,000 words in the month of November.

Hmmph..! Do you know what that means to me..? It means I won’t be able to get on the computer to do my dog blogging, that’s what that means…!

So I’d better get a few photos of me in now before she takes over the computer. Enjoy xx

My cousin Russell is SO cool, I want to be just like him when I grow up.

Not only is he fast enough to catch squirrels in his garden and in the woods (and once in his home) but he’s also been talent spotted by the media, to appear in an advertising campaign for some pet insurance (but not catching a squirrel!)

Hello Again!

It’s been a while since my last post, so I’ve got a bit of catching up to do….

I’m now 8 months old and weigh nine and a half kilos – no thanks to the fake dried meatballs they still keep feeding me. But I have broadened my diet and now I also eat fruit (grapes, peaches, pears and apples) and nuts (yum!) and any food that I can wangle from mum and dad’s dinner table (why does their food always taste SO much better than my own..?)

PLEASE can I have some.....?

Mum and dad went away for a month to somewhere called England, to see their other darlings. Hmmph! I SO wanted to go and meet them, and meet my cousins Russell and Austin too – but mum and dad made some excuse about not being able to take me on the aeroplane. I am such an excellent traveller though, I don’t know why I couldn’t have gone! So I stayed behind with my designated foster parents, which was quite fun actually. They weren’t quite used to my routines and so I was able to make them up as I went along. I tried to cadge some CHICKEN and extra food and treats, but it didn’t always work.

When mum and dad came back they took me on my own little holiday in the car and we went into the country and visited some historic sites.

I love travelling in the car and seeing all the new things. Although I’ve got my own special blanket on the back seat, I prefer to perch myself on the armrest between mum and dad. They think I’m taking in the sights but really I’m keeping my eye on the driving. And if I see any animals – like cows, sheep, goats or real live CHICKENS – then I leap up to the open window, pop my head out and bark away at them. I’ll show them who’s Top Dog!

The trip to the country was great and we stayed in some hotels. We even stayed in a villa with its own Turkish Bath, where the water came directly from an underground spa. My fur was so soft and silky after taking a swim in the HUGE bath.

It was nice to get back to my own bed though and although it’s too cold to swim in the sea now, I still love running along the beach or up and down the woods chasing after pebbles, feeling the wind in my fur with my tail wagging away.

Girls Who Like To Shop

Five months old, 8kgs:

When I come back into this world, I’m going to come back as a human.

Human’s can eat what they like, when they like. They can even go shopping and choose their own food!

Me? I’m only allowed to eat twice a day, whereas new-mum and new-dad eat ALL THE TIME! I’m only allowed to eat dried fake-meat balls and sometimes CHICKEN – but they have different food EVERY time.

When I play the ‘sad-eyes’ card they often feel sorry for me and give me some of their tasty food. But I have to try to control myself. If I get too excited and start jumping up for more, they make me wait until they’ve finished and put it into my bowl instead of me eating it there and then. Or I might not even get any at all.

I have to be careful also because if I don’t eat my own food and wait for something more tasty instead – not only do I not get anything tasty, but my own food disappears too. I’m not sure where it goes or who eats it, but I know it doesn’t come back to me. Then I end up with nothing!

The other day I tried to sneak into the shopping bag. I knew they were going to the supermarket so I thought I would sneak along with them and add my own stuff to the basket. Here’s my list:

CHICKEN
CHICKEN
CHICKEN
Chocolate (but some idiot told new-mum chocolate can damage a dog’s health)
Ice-cream (new-mum read on the Internet that dogs couldn’t tolerate milk products, but my real-mum used to give me milk all the time)
Yoghurt – especially apricot flavour and only if I can lick the pot
Biscuits – not the doggy kind but the delicious ones humans eat
Peaches – lovely juicy ones
Peanut butter – with or without toast but straight from the jar is even better
Sausages – ANY kind
Apples – to clean my teeth
Cheese – especially cheddar (drat, another milk product!)

In fact, I could eat ANYTHING as long as it wasn’t that dried dog food. Whoever invented that rubbish anyway?

It certainly wasn’t a dog..!

I don't think anyone saw me...

I'll just wait here quietly. I'm sure they haven't noticed me...

That was easy - I don't think I've been spotted..!

What Is This Lungworm?

My cool cousin, Russell’s dad has been telling new-mum about this ‘lungworm’ and I was listening with interest, because I thought they were talking about FOOD.

But it turns out this ‘lungworm’ is a greedy little parasite that feeds on DOGS and it can be very dangerous!!!

The vet said there is a global epidemic in YOUNG DOGS (like me and Russell) and it can be picked up from SLUGS and SNAILS – urgghhh! How revolting! Who in their right mind would want to eat a slug or a snail?

Not only that, foxes can also become infected and if you’re a dog that likes a little fox-poo delicacy now and again, then you’d better retrain your taste buds – quick! Mind you, I am SO bored with the dried fake-meat balls that new-mum keeps giving me, I’m not surprised some dogs turn to fox poo, snails and slugs….

But really, this lungworm infection can be very dangerous – even fatal if it’s not treated. And infections can be spread in dog poo too.
